In September, the City of Greenwood approved funding for a multi-million dollar upgrade and improvement to the Greenwood Community Center. The upgrade and improvements proposed include a brand indoor new play space for children that includes an outdoor area with a sensory/musical playground. There will be seating, flexible space for parties, classes and other gatherings. The features of the playground concept include;

  • A two story kids zone
  • A climbing feature (much like the one at the Children’s Museum) with slides as exits from the climber
  • A foam playground building set
  • Climbing and monkey bars
  • Imaginative play areas
  • Other state of the art equipment.

One date we’ve heard as a projection for the opening is late 2016. This 2.3 million dollar project will make the community center a hot spot for south side families, providing them something to do during adverse weather conditions, while using other areas of the facility or for new opportunities for growth in other areas.

This project also includes funding for renovations and improvements throughout the building.
