indianapolis carmel community gardens

Community Gardens are typically spaces that have been outfitted with garden plots for “rent” by the public or members of a private organization. Plot renters are responsible for planting, maintaining and harvesting their own gardens.

Urban farms typically grow food that is sold, either on a nonprofit or for-profit basis. You’ll find this food at a farmers market, as part of a CSA or in restaurants. We love to take walks in the garden areas and see what people are growing. My children are getting very good at identifying the different garden plants growing even before they have produced veggies.

Check out these gardens and enjoy the beauty of food! You might even want to get on the list for a plot for your family or be inspired to plant a garden in your own backyard.
