This summer our family hit the road and explored Michigan for the first time. It’s really not that far away from Indianapolis and there’s plenty to do for every type of adventurer. Our second trip to Michigan took us to Petoskey, a lake resort area that is popular for family vacations, girlfriend getaways and romantic weekends. There’s never enough time to do everything but here are our recommendations for your family, based on the fun we had.
Wander the beaches, take a dip or spend some time searching for the coveted “Petoskey Stones,” fossilized coral formed because the glaciers. It’s also the Michigan state stone.
There are many spaces to enjoy picnic lunches, we loved the Waterfall Area at in Bayfront Park. There’s a beautiful waterfall, picnic tables and so many beautiful things to look at, including Little Traverse Bay.
Mclean and Eakin Booksellers in the Gaslight shopping district will bring great joy to readers young and old. The children’s section is fantastic and the owners have really taken special care to have wonderful books available.
The Gaslight Shopping District will really please all of your senses. With soaps to smell, textiles to touch, foods to eat and beverages to drink, there’s delight in every shop.
You’ll find everything you never knew you needed!
Stop into Fustini’s and try a variety of oils, vinegars and spreads. Everyone will find their favorite flavor!
Maple Moon Winery is the first winery in America to use maple syrup (from trees taped onsite) in wine. There’s a free tour at 4pm everyday. The grounds are beautiful!
The ski lift runs year round at Boyne Mountain Resort. Take a ride and enjoy the view. Mountain bikers can use the lift to get to the top of the slope.
Roast & Toast has great sandwiches and drinks. Our kids loved the cups and saucers used in the decor inside and out AND they really liked the children’s toys available for use while we waited for our meal. This casual place has great selection.
Avalanche Bay Indoor Waterpark at the Boyne Mountain Resort is a blast! Everyone should try spend some time here!
Zip line as a family or with your friends. That’s me on the right at Boyne Mountain resort. This was a single zip-line but there are longer experiences available.
The breakfast buffet at Everett’s (Boyne Mountain Resort) is such a memorable experience that I just had to tell you about it! Kids 4 and under are free!
There’s so much to do and see in Petoskey, Michigan. Pack up the car and head there today! Seriously, do it!
