As a family that loves the culinary scene, we love exploring what central Indiana has to offer. As residents of the town of Plainfield, at times it’s nice to enjoy something close to home and support local businesses who are nearby. Finding the balance between taking your kids someplace they’ll enjoy while also enjoying it yourself isn’t always the easiest of tasks. Luckily, we’ve compiled a list of family-friendly restaurants the whole family will love.
Family Friendly Restaurants in Plainfield
Bru Burger
2499 Perry Crossing Way, Plainfield
With locations across Central Indiana, Bru Burger Plainfield has become one of our family’s favorite go to restaurants for a great hearty burger. The restaurant offers an array of delicious all-American burgers. Other than their great taste, our family chooses Bru Burger for their locally sourced meats, produce and handmade sauces. The ingredients are fresh each day for local customers. The restaurant also offers a lamb burger which has become a favorite of my kids, the lamb is also locally sourced and fresh. They also offer great appetizers such as the triple dip, which is a must during our visit to Bru. Their menu also includes salads, sandwiches, dessert, and a kid’s menu.
Metro Diner
302 N Dan Jones Road, Plainfield
A diner started in 1992, metro diner offers “classic” favorites and new bold and innovative flavors. They serve breakfast, brunch, lunch, and dinner. Metro diner is known for its delicious waffle craze, there are waffles served with all sorts of toppings, from sweet to savory, there is a waffle at metro diner for everyone. My boys love metro diner’s hearty breakfast waffles topped with either fruit or whipped cream or their cute silver dollar pancakes. Other than waffles, metro diner’s serves egg platters, egg benedict’s, omelets, croissant French toast, and all- American breakfast favorites. I love their creamy chicken and veggie waffle for lunch or dinner. Their lunch and dinner menu include some classics such as shepherds’ pie, fish & chips, shrimp and grits, pot roast and much more. A great place to try out all those great American classics.
Oasis Diner
405 W Main Street, Plainfield
Another great diner located in the heart of downtown Plainfield is Oasis diner. This dinner is sure to “WOW” it’s guests with its authentic diner feel. As you drive up, the restaurant greets you with it’s original 1954 setting. This is a great place to take the whole family, kids, and grandparent’s both love going to oasis diner because of its history and authentic food. Oasis diner is known for their tenderloin, tenderloin sliders, and hand dipped ice cream. Our family enjoys ordering a variety of food each time we visit oasis. We often find ourselves also ordering milkshakes or their handcrafted soda floats with our meal. A great place to take everyone in your family to enjoy some of America’s original eats.
Flapjacks Pancake House
414 W Main Street, Plainfield
Flapjacks pancakes house is an old time favorite; it was a great place when I was in high school to grab breakfast with friends before going to school. Today I get an opportunity to take my kids to enjoy a delicious meal. Just like its name, flapjacks are known for it+s assortment of delicious pancakes. One of my kid’s favorites is the strawberry banana split pancake, topped with fresh strawberries and bananas, chocolate chips and drizzle and whipped cream. They also have sweet or savory crepes that are so soft and delicious. Along with delectable breakfast, they have great gyros and an assortment of lunch options.
Frigid Frog
1702 E Main Street, Plainfield
Frigid Frog is one of those places that is a must for those warm summer months, it was started by a group of teens as a summer job and has turned into something spectacular. My family first discovered Frigid Frog a few years ago when they were selling snow cones from a food truck. Since then, they have expanded to a large physical location equipped with a large screen for movies and cartoons, a foosball table, a hockey table, and lots of great toys for kids to play with while visiting the shop. This is a great place for parents to take the kids to for a short outing. My kids enjoy choosing a yummy treat and getting a chance to play. Along with their snow cones they also offer ice creams, candy, shakes, and coffee.
Jack’s Donuts
2230 Stafford Road, Plainfield
Jacks’ donuts are located across Indianapolis, while there are numerous donut shops offering up great donuts, we love going to jacks in Plainfield for their fresh donuts. We enjoy our donuts to go or at their location, which is family friendly. They have kid-sized tables and chairs, coloring books and crayons, and a chalkboard wall with chalk for kids to draw.
Red Robin
365 S Perry Road, Plainfield
Another great place to get a tasty burger is Red Robin. I think my kids enjoy visiting red robin for its free red balloons along with its tasty meals. We’re a family part of the red robin royalty, where we earn free appetizers and meals from reward points, it’s free to join and you can start earning points just for signing up.
Chicago’s Pizza
2230 Stafford Road, Plainfield
Locally owned by a military veteran, Chicago’s pizza is a great place for families, whether it’s for lunch or dinner. Our family likes going during their lunch all you can eat pizza; it gives everyone an opportunity to choose the slice of pizza they like. Each first Tuesday of the month is kids’ night out from 5-8pm. There is face painting, a clown with balloons and of course Pizza. The restaurant also has a party room for birthday parties, baby, and bridal showers.
India Bistro
130 N Perry Road, Plainfield
Their motto is “Keep calm, and Curry on”, India bistro is locally owned and offers a flare of flavor to families. During the week, the restaurant offers a buffet style menu, allowing guests to try different dishes. For families that are vegan or vegetarian, India bistro has a vegan night for those who want to take extra precautions. We love visiting and ordering takeout from India bistro–the chicken tikka, currys, and rice biryani are exploding with flavor and so delicious.
Goody’s Family Restaurant
1601 E Main Street, Plainfield
Goody’s family restaurant is a locally owned restaurant serving Mexican and American food. They offer all-American classics for breakfast, lunch, and dinner alongside some Mexican eats. Each day of the week they list their daily specials, allowing a condensed menu that’s not overwhelming for guests.
Stacks Pancake House
6011 Gateway Drive, Plainfield
Stacks pancake house offers sweet and savory cravings that can be satisfied by their extensive offering of pancakes, egg dishes, crepes, waffles, French toast, sandwiches, salads, burgers, and more. A breakfast, brunch and lunch eatery that incorporates something for everyone in generous sizes. During Halloween stacks has a Halloween party that includes pumpkin carving and painting, caramel apples, cookie decorating, raffle tickets and prizes. They also include a kid-friendly menu that offers mickey mouse shaped pancakes. A great place to try for the Disney fan in your home.
Milk & Honey Bakery
111 S Vine Street, Plainfield
A French style bakery and coffee shop in the heart of downtown Plainfield. Milk & Honey bakery has been our family’s favorite local bakery since they opened in 2018. My boys love their fresh croissants for breakfast. We also enjoy having the occasional sweet treat, the desserts are made fresh each day and include various cookies, brownies, macarons, lemon tarts, cinnamon rolls and much more. Each week their menu changes, bringing out new desserts and drinks each season.
Biggby Coffee
302 N Dan Jones Road, Plainfield
Biggby coffee is a great coffee shop for adults to get their coffee fix, it also offers a kid’s menu with flavored milk topped with whipped cream and sprinkles. The Plainfield-Guilford township public library hosts story time every first Tuesday of the month at the Plainfield Biggby location, after the story time, there’s also a craft and during the story each child receives a free drink. The coffee shop also houses kids’ games and a table and chairs for little ones to stay occupied while parents enjoy their drink. This is a local favorite of moms; including myself, I take my toddler after preschool for Storytime and to play games with friends.
Sal’s Famous Pizzeria
350 E Main Street, Plainfield
Sal’s by far has one of the best pizza’s in town, locally owned by an Italian family. Sal’s brings fresh quality ingredients to its food. Everything is locally grown or sourced and the sauces and dough are made fresh daily. Their Neapolitan style pizza is one of the only ones offered in Plainfield and cooked in a brick oven. The restaurant environment is welcoming and makes any guest feel welcomed, especially with kids.
Nonna’s by So Italian
5020 Cambridge Way, Plainfield
A family-owned restaurant that makes you feel like part of the family. Nonna which means grandma in Italian, brings out that warm personality in every dish. This Italian restaurant serves up authentic Italian cuisine, they do not have a kid’s menu, but offer kid friendly choices such as various pastas, pizzas, calzones, and breadsticks. Each Saturday Nonna’s offers outdoor seating and live music by local bands, something to bring the entire family to enjoy.
Reme’s Restaurant
2683 E Main Street #113, Plainfield
The first time I visited Reme’s was for a mother/son lunch date with my seven-year-old son. The restaurant has a hometown diner feel, offering lots of great authentic all-American food in generous portions. During our visit, the owner greeted us, and the overall atmosphere was very welcoming.
Green District Salads
313 Marketplace Mile Suite 160, Plainfield
Most parent’s may not associate a place offering purely salad choices with kids, but no doubt Green district salads have tasty salads that will have your kids wanting to eat their greens. Their salads come a in wide range of flavors from the forbidden fruit to Thai to Greek, there are choices and flavors for everyone. The salads can also be wrapped, which tends to be my kid’s favorite choice. A great place for a quick healthy bite for the family.
Asia Wok
2012 Stafford Road, Plainfield
Asia Wok has been a family favorite even before my kids were born. Their menu consists of classic Asian dishes such as orange chicken, General Tso’s, and pineapple chicken. They also have various stir fry choices, and different noodles are a favorite among kids. They do not offer a kid’s menu, but there are lots of great choices for kids to make their choice from the regular menu. We like going during their lunch specials because it offers a mix of an entrée and two sides for a great cost.
Iguanas Mexican Restaurant
155 N Dan Jones Road, Plainfield
Iguanas is one of the most colorful restaurants to eat at in Plainfield. As you walk in, your eyes feast on the colorful papel picado throughout the dining room and the colorful chairs that adorn the restaurant, it feels as though you’re stepping into a fiesta. We love visiting this location with kids for it’s fun and upbeat vibe. Their menu consists of delicious Mexican food, one of our family’s favorites is the street tacos or the generous size nachos.
The Coachman
6112 Cambridge Way, Plainfield
As a military family we love supporting others who are within the military community. The Coachman is a great restaurant that’s adorned inside with military memorabilia and support for those who serve/served our country. Throughout the restaurant you can also check out some of its vintage American memorabilia. Their menu offers a wide range of food from all- American eats such as sandwiches, pastas, salads, seafood specialties, and grilled meats. During the warmer months, the coachman hosts live music outdoors for families to enjoy.
