In current trends, we are seeing unique coffee shops opening nationwide. With their concept of combining a coffee shop and children’s play space, play cafes have become a staple in our society today. While kids climb and slide and play with a variety of toys, parents and caregivers can grab a beverage and enjoy a fun and safe environment for everyone. These fun and inviting play spaces often provide curated specialty drinks for adults and kids, all while allowing children the freedom to play indoors while adults relax.
The newest play cafe to call central Indiana home is Urban Brew Cafe, not far from downtown Indy. A place that wants to bring a sense of community for families, Urban Brew opened its door on February 15, 2024, in the heart of downtown Martinsville. The new play cafe is sure to wow parents and kids alike with its inviting and PINK atmosphere.
Coffee Shop at Urban Brew Cafe
As you enter the coffee shop, you’re greeted by the beautiful pink ambiance from the coffee counter. The coffee shop space is beautifully curated for customers with its large easy-to-read menu and floral lighting.
The adult menu showcases delicious coffee options and specialty drinks like the Purple Rain and the Baklava Latte. There are also smoothies, cold drinks, and other beverages. The croffels were such a delight with their warm croissant waffle topped with an assortment of sweet or savory choices.
At a play cafe, a kid’s menu is necessary to keep those little ones hydrated from all the playtime. Drinks like Under the Sea and the Chunky Monkey Smoothie will surely excite your kiddos.
Urban Brew Cafe’s Indoor Playground
Once admission is paid and waivers are signed, numbered bracelets are given to each child in your family planning to play. This number system allows the staff to keep track of how many children are in the play area. Staff only allow up to 10 children in the play space so that everyone can enjoy playtime. Parents and children are also given a paper bracelet with the end time of their session to help staff keep track of when it is time for other families to join in the fun.
Before entering the play space, designed for children ages 0-7, everyone must take their shoes off and socks must be worn at all times. Non-slip socks are best for this play space. There is a rack where shoes and jackets can be placed.
Children are greeted with a large pastel pink play structure that boasts loads of fun. The pink house has an adorable cafe for pretend play that comes equipped with all things coffee. A play kitchen is filled with play food, a play oven, and a refrigerator. There’s also a climbing area to reach the second level of the pink playhouse. The large play structure has a fun soft climber, a bridge, a slide, and soft foam mats.
A baby area for non-walkers is adorned with lots of fun and interactive baby toys. A baby gate around this area creates a safe environment for little ones. Babies can roll and tumble on a foam play mat and lots of soft play structures. A busy board wall is a great interactive area for toddlers wanting to explore, touch, and learn. The wooden board has all sorts of buttons, gears, shapes, and instruments to play with. My one-year-old loved exploring all the interactive colors on the cute light-up board.
In the baby area, parents and caregivers are welcome to get on the floor with little ones and play or relax on comfortable couches.
Two family-style restrooms are located next to the large play structure. Even these restrooms are adorable, full of color and fun lights, and equipped for families’ needs.

Play Sessions
Play sessions are scheduled in 30-minute increments. Parents and caregivers have the option of purchasing per-child admission for greater lengths of time at a discount:
30 minutes: $6
60 minutes: $9
90 minutes: $12
Children under 1 are free with a paid sibling and parents, caregivers, and infants up to 6 months of age (without siblings) do not require a paid admission. The play space only allows up to 10 children at a time, so it’s best to check online for a time slot and sign up on their waiting list. Before playtime, every parent or caregiver must sign a waiver form either on Urban Brew’s website or at the cafe.
Community Room for Parties
Urban Brew is a perfect location for birthday parties, baby showers, and other events. The community room boasts ample space for hosting your next gathering. It is a light and airy room with plenty of tables, adorable chairs, several high chairs, cozy couches, and fun lights adorning the ceiling.
The room can be booked from available packages and an event coordinator will work one-on-one with you to help bring your party vision to life. Private parties and events can be held on Sundays and after hours.
The community room also houses a “community library shelf” where visitors of all ages can browse available books to read, check them out, and return books on their next visit. The Community Shelf also boasts board games for adults and older children, making this a wonderful place to meet new people and discover new books, games, and delicious treats.
Wellness Center
Urban Brew genuinely wants parents, caregivers, and the community to enjoy their new facility. Adjacent to the community room is a wellness center waiting for visitors to relax and unwind.
With an experienced team who are passionate about what they do, they have also created a space to enjoy without kids. The wellness center is inviting with its calm and modern atmosphere.
They offer an array of services ranging from a sauna and salt room with halotherapy to body sculpting, radio frequency, and one-on-one consultations. In the future, Urban Brew plans to add adult-only events, creating wonderful opportunities to relax without kids.
