March brings one of the best days of the year- the first day of Spring! After these cold and dreary days, there is nothing better than the renewal of sunshine and warm temperatures. The flowers are starting to grow, the smell of pollen is in the air, and the crisp spring weather is arriving! March is also National Disability Awareness Month so we have jam packed this list with lots of fun activities for families with additional needs.
Carmel Clay Parks and Recreation maintains 17 amazing parks and greenways throughout the city of Carmel. In addition to their suite of innovative and world class parks, they also provide access to the Monon Community Center and The Waterpark. Carmel Clay Parks and Recreation facilitates top-notch programming for the whole community and provides opportunities to connect as a family with nature.

They open two hours before normal, to specifically welcome special needs children, and their families, for a quieter and calmer environment. The events are staffed with specially trained employees, to ensure that each special guest has a fun filled visit.

Play & Learn will be open for Y families with children with sensory sensitivities or other diverse needs. Must register at least one week in advance. Child to staff ration will be kept at 4:1 regardless of age. Sensory Sunday will be held the 2nd and 4th Sunday of each month.
Adaptive and Sensory Friendly Skating Day- Perry Park Ice Arena

Come join us on the rink for a free adaptive skating session! A supportive, and adaptive/sensory friendly environment is provided just for you! Traditional or “shoebox” skates available. Wheelchairs permitted, skate walkers available, and we’ll even have ice sleds on hand! Volunteer instructors from our local hockey and figure skating clubs will be on the ice to assist you!
Studio Movie Grill- Onward Screening

Special needs children, and their families, are invited to attend a special screening of Onward. The film will be shown with the lights up, and the sound down, to accommodate those with sensory sensitivities. Children are free to move around the rows and aisles, talk, or even dance during the movie. Special needs children and their siblings are free, and parents are only charged the before noon matinee pricing.

Join us for our revamped adaptive sports showcase. An interactive social event, bringing together adaptive sports teams, and best buddy clubs, from HSE schools. Participate in carnival style games, facilitated by best buddies, from 2-3pm. Also, check out the adaptive sport exhibitions and activities from 2-4pm. Engage with student learning presentations from 3-4pm, and cap off the afternoon, with a talent show, in the Fishers High School black box theater. Featuring exceptional learners from HSE schools, from 4-6pm.
