There’s nothing like the sweet taste of sun-ripened fresh strawberries picked straight from the plant. Luckily, you won’t have to drive far to find a place to harvest your very own delicious berries in Indianapolis.

Strawberry picking is a popular early summer tradition for many local families. The little ones tend to eat their weight in berries as they move down the rows in the strawberry patch. The car will smell sweet on the drive home from the boxes of fresh-picked berries and the juice that stains tiny hands and faces.

What month is best for strawberry picking? When is Indiana strawberry season? It all depends on the weather. In the past, we’ve picked strawberries on Indy 500 race day, and in other years, we’ve picked in June. This year, some farms already have strawberries available!

We always recommend calling the farm you wish to visit ahead of time to verify that they will have ripe berries for you to pick. Most farms also regularly update their Facebook pages and other social media with info about hours and availability during berry season.
