Victory Field Is Getting New Seats for 2027: What Indianapolis Families Need to Know

Sundays at Victory Field Are a Home Run for Indy Families

Victory Field is getting a pretty significant makeover before the Indianapolis Indians return for the 2027 season, and this is one renovation Indianapolis families are going to notice.

The biggest change? The seats.

After 30 seasons of baseball at Victory Field, seating throughout the ballpark is being upgraded for 2027. The changes include new seats around the stadium, a brand-new premium experience directly behind home plate, more room to move around and, perhaps most importantly for families watching their budgets, reduced ticket prices in several areas of the ballpark.

For those of us who have spent plenty of summer evenings at Victory Field with kids, these are the kinds of changes that could actually make game day even better!

New Seats Are Coming to Victory Field

Victory Field opened in downtown Indianapolis in 1996, and many of those familiar green ballpark seats have been there for decades.

When the Indianapolis Indians return in 2027, fans will find new seating throughout the ballpark. The Indians say the new seats will feature breathable mesh and a more cushioned, stretchable seatback designed to help reduce seat temperatures during hot summer games.

As a parent, that immediately caught my attention.

Anyone who has attended an afternoon or early evening baseball game in July knows how hot a stadium seat can get. A seat designed to hold less heat might sound like a small change, but when you’re outside with kids on a 90-degree day, I’ll take every bit of extra comfort I can get.

More Room for Families to Get In and Out

There are some other changes that parents may appreciate even more once they’re actually sitting in the new seats.

The new swivel-style seats are designed to provide additional leg and elbow room while making it easier for fans to enter and exit their rows. Drink rails will be located in front of the seats, and purse hooks are being added too.

Parents know exactly why easier row access matters.

Someone needs to use the bathroom.

Someone wants popcorn.

Someone dropped something.

Someone suddenly remembers that Dippin’ Dots exist.

Also, your child who hasn’t moved in two innings urgently needs to leave the row at the exact moment something exciting is happening on the field.

A little extra room and easier movement can go a long way during a baseball game with kids.

And having a designated place for drinks instead of trying to balance cups around your feet, bags, snacks, and children sounds pretty great too. I mean, who hasn’t knocked over a $10 ballpark beverage while playing the seat shuffle?

There’s a Brand-New Premium Area Behind Home Plate

The biggest transformation will happen directly behind home plate.

Approximately 270 seats in Sections 111, 112, and 113 are being transformed into Victory Field’s new Home Plate Premium Area. These seats will be located on the concourse level and will get fans closer to home plate than any other seating area in the ballpark.

This isn’t simply a nicer chair with a better view. Premium ticket holders will have access to private food stations serving elevated ballpark favorites and rotating game-day selections. Soft drinks, assorted beer, and wine are included, and there will be a full-service bar with liquor available for purchase.

Access to the area and its food and beverage service begins when the gates open, typically about 65 minutes before first pitch.

How Much Will the New Premium Seats Cost?

We now have actual pricing for at least one version of this new experience.

Quarter-season Home Plate Premium packages include 18 games during the 2027 season.

Current pricing is:
Row A: $1,600 per seat for 18 games
Rows B-C: $1,400 per seat for 18 games
Rows D-H: $1,250 per seat for 18 games

The Indians are also offering multi-year agreements that can bring the effective ticket price down to between $60 and $88 per game, depending on the row and length of the agreement. For most families, this probably isn’t going to replace a regular night on the lawn. Instead, I see this as a special-occasion option.

It could be fun for a birthday, Mother’s Day or Father’s Day, a gift for a baseball-loving kid or grandparent, or one really memorable summer night when you want the baseball game itself to be the big event.

The good news is that Victory Field isn’t turning the entire ballpark into a premium experience.

Here’s the Really Good News for Families: Some Ticket Prices Are Going Down

When I hear “premium seating,” I usually prepare myself for the rest of the announcement to involve higher prices. That’s not the whole story here.

Along with creating the new Home Plate Premium Area, the Indianapolis Indians announced that ticket prices will actually be reduced in the Upper Box, Upper Reserved, and Lawn seating areas beginning in 2027. Those are VERY important sections for families.

The lawn has long been one of my favorite Victory Field options for families with younger children because kids aren’t expected to remain in the same chair for nine innings. There’s a little more flexibility to spread out and move around. Upper-level seating can also be a great way to experience the ballpark without paying for seats close to the field.

So while there is certainly a new high-end option at Victory Field, the Indians are also preserving — and potentially improving — the affordable side of a family night at the ballpark.

We Already Know About One Budget-Friendly 2027 Ticket Option

Single-game tickets for 2027 don’t go on sale until spring, so we don’t have the complete pricing picture yet. But families who know they’ll attend several games already have another interesting option.

The Indians’ 2027 Flex Plans allow families to purchase either 10 or 20 undated ticket vouchers and use them for home games throughout the season, based on availability.

Current pricing, including fees:

10 Lawn vouchers: $108
10 Reserved Seat vouchers: $138
10 Box Seat vouchers: $178
20 Lawn vouchers: $192.50
20 Reserved Seat vouchers: $252.50
20 Box Seat vouchers: $332.50

The flexibility could work especially well for families because you aren’t committing to the same group of people for every game. The Indians describe the plan as allowing purchasers to choose when they attend and who they bring.

If your family already knows you’ll spend several nights at Victory Field next summer, it’s an option worth comparing with single-game ticket prices once those are announced.

What About Kids Eat Free, Fireworks and the Other Family Promotions?

This is one area where families should wait before making plans. The Indianapolis Indians have not announced the 2027 promotions and giveaway schedule yet. The team says those details will be announced in spring 2027.

In previous seasons, promotions have been a huge part of what makes Indians games such a good family outing, with special ticket deals, fireworks, character appearances, giveaways, and family-focused promotions appearing throughout the season. I’m especially interested to see which of the popular recurring family deals return for the Indians’ 125th season. We’ll update our recommendations once that schedule is released.

The 2027 Indianapolis Indians Home Opener Is April 6

Families who like to plan ahead can already put Opening Day at Victory Field on the calendar.

The Indianapolis Indians will begin their 125th season on the road on Friday, March 26, against the Toledo Mud Hens. The 2027 Victory Field home opener is Tuesday, April 6, against the Iowa Cubs. The regular season concludes at home on Sunday, September 19, against the Columbus Clippers.

There are already several dates on the schedule that families may want to note, including:

Mother’s Day: Sunday, May 9
Memorial Day: Monday, May 31
Independence Day: Sunday, July 4

The Indians will also have a long homestand beginning on Memorial Day and continuing through Sunday, June 13. Game times have not yet been announced.

Victory Field is changing, but it sounds like families will still have plenty of ways to experience it on their own budget. After 30 seasons at Victory Field, I’m pretty excited to see what the next chapter looks like.

We’ll be watching for the 2027 single-game ticket prices, game times, and promotional calendar when they’re announced this spring.

For now, circle April 6, 2027 if you want to be among the first families to experience the newly updated Victory Field.
