What happens when you put some of the world’s best cooks in one room, give them a clock, and ask them to make something incredible? Your kids can find out this October, right here in Indianapolis.
The World Food Championships return to the Indiana State Fairgrounds & Event Center October 15–18, 2026. Chefs, home cooks, and pitmasters will compete in ten categories, including burgers, barbecue, bacon, noodles, and dessert. Families can watch the cooking unfold in Kitchen Arena, catch demonstrations, and explore the food and entertainment around the event. If your kids love a cooking show, imagine letting them watch one happen right in front of them.

Why bring the kids to The World Food Championships?
You don’t need a child who loves to cook. A kid who loves pizza, asks how things are made, or enjoys cheering for a favorite team has plenty to get excited about.
Start in Kitchen Arena and let everyone choose a category to follow. Can your family guess what the cooks are making? Which plate looks the most delicious? Who would you send through to the next round? Watching the competitors work under a deadline gives kids something to follow beyond the finished dish. They can see the chopping, cooking, and last-minute decisions that go into it
I also love an outing that gives kids a reason to try a bite of something unfamiliar. World Food Championships includes sampling opportunities, demonstrations, and food experiences, though what’s available depends on the day and ticket you choose. Take a look at the schedule together before you go and let each person pick one thing they want to see or taste.
Saturday, October 17, is an especially fun day to consider for young food fans. WFC Jr. puts young cooks in the spotlight, giving kids a chance to watch competitors closer to their own age. The day’s schedule also includes the Biscuits & Jampionship and other specialty competitions. Indianapolis Pizza Festival activity joins the weekend lineup, with a separate combo ticket available if you want to add that experience to your day.

For older kids and teens, try Sunday, October 18, when the championship finals take place. After watching cooks compete, your family can see who earns the titles. It’s a good pick for the kid who wants to know how the whole story ends.
Why Take the Kids?
Live cooking action: Watch cooks race the clock making burgers, noodles, desserts, and more.
Young chefs: Catch WFC Jr. on Saturday, October 17.
Kids Zone: Take a break and burn off those calories in the play area.
Food discoveries: Explore demonstrations and sampling opportunities in the marketplace.
Family favorites: Add Saturday’s Indianapolis Pizza Festival with a separate combo ticket.

Make a family outing of it
The easiest way to enjoy this with kids is to pick a few highlights and leave room to wander. Watch a competition, take a break to find something to eat, then come back for a demonstration or another category. You can stay as long as your crew is having fun.
Let your kids help plan the visit, too. One might vote for dessert, another for world cuisine, and someone will almost certainly have strong opinions about burgers. That’s part of the fun: everyone has a reason to pay attention, and you’ll have plenty to talk about on the way home.
General admission is $15 on Thursday and Friday, with free entry before noon on those two days. Saturday and Sunday single-day tickets start at $15, and kids 8 and under get in free. General admission and premium experiences are separate ticket options, so check what’s included before promising the kids a particular tasting.

Date night at The World Food Championships
You can absolutely take the kids one day and come back without them at night.
If you and your person tend to default to the same dinner reservation, World Food Championships gives you something new to do together. Walk the event, watch a live cook-off, compare your picks, and talk about what you’d make if you were handed a competition clock. You’ll get the energy of a big event and a shared experience you’ll still be discussing over dinner later.

The evening ticketed experiences make an especially good date night plan. Burger Battle is Thursday, October 15, and Dessert Smash is Friday, October 16. Each features bites from more than 30 chefs or competition teams, plus a chance to vote for a People’s Choice favorite. Friday also brings IGNITE! WFC Music and BBQ Party, with barbecue tastings, live music, grilling demonstrations, and tailgate games. These are premium events with their own tickets, so choose the one that sounds most like your kind of night.
Plan your visit to The World Food Championships
The World Food Championships take place October 15–18 at the Indiana State Fairgrounds & Event Center. Check the event schedule to choose the competitions your family wants to see, then buy tickets through the Indiana State Fairgrounds. Schedules and ticket availability can change, so give both pages another look before you head out.
Bring the kids who want to watch the action. Bring the ones who want to taste stuff. And if your family ends up debating the best-looking dish all the way home, I’d call that a pretty good day out.
