Butler (2)It’s that time of the year…the air is cold but the days are getting longer, and college basketball is seriously underway. Butler grads, Indy lovers, and anyone with a heart for an underdog story loves the Butler Bulldogs. Currently ranked 6th in the Big East the basketball team that took the world by storm with back-to-back Final Four runs in 2010 and 2011 also happens to be great family fun just outside your front door.

Here’s the scoop for taking your kids to a Butler basketball game:

First, remember that these games can sell out quickly, especially for highly ranked opponents, so if you want to get to a game check out tickets now here.  Tickets range from about $14 to $38 but can sell for hundreds on other sites. Check the direct Butler site before buying elsewhere to avoid additional charges. Kids under 3 are free but must sit on a lap. If you want your child to have their own seat or if you have children 3 or older you will need to purchase a ticket. The upper levels have bench seating, some of which is padded and some of which is not, so check the website or call before purchasing if you are concerned about the type of seating. Lower level tickets get you a real chair, thanks to the recent multi-million dollar remodel on the historic Hinkle Fieldhouse.

If possible, aim to arrive early for the pregame festivities which start about 90 minutes before the game. Butler mascot Blue III (aka ‘Trip’) frequents the stadium for games and is a young-fan favorite. Take a selfie with Trip, grab some popcorn, check out the fan store, and tour the beautiful stadium.

Parking is easy with the new parking garage located just west of Hinkle. Game day parking is $10. There is also a drop-off lane at Gate 1 where you can let your passengers out before you park. Street parking is available, but watch the signs to make sure it’s not a designated permit-parking area.

And of course, if your kids are old enough to appreciate it, show them the movie Hoosiers before you take your first trip to Hinkle together. Loved the game? Season passes and 5 game packages are available. And GO DAWGS!
