Celebrate Earth Day in Indy!

Earth Day is by far one of my most favorite holidays. The Earth gives all of us so much, the sunshine, the grass beneath our toes, bubbling brooks, abundant forests, and much more! It is truly a pleasure for me to share my love for the Earth with my children. Luckily there are many ways to celebrate Mother Nature as a family in the greater Indianapolis area this April.

April 15-16 and April 22-23, Free Admission to any national park during National Park Week. Indiana is fortunate to be the home of three national parks – Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore, George Rogers Clark National Historic Park and Lincoln Boyhood National Memorial. Visit any of these beautiful national parks for free in honor of Earth month.

April 19, 10:30 am – 11 am, Beastly Brunch at Holliday Park. Meet in the lobby at the Nature Center and watch the staff feed the animals as you learn more about what they eat. Looks like mice and crickets may be on the menu!

April 19, 11 am – 2 pm, Earth Day at Indiana State University. What began as a lecture series has expanded to a day long celebration open to the community full of abundant activities and hands on workshops. The event focuses on sustainability and its importance in ensuring a bright and healthy future for all.

April 22, 10:30 am- 11:30 am, Animal Adventures: Trees at Hussey-Mayfield Memorial Library and Zion Nature Center. What better way to celebrate Earth Day than to learn all about trees? Naturalists from the Zion Center will join guests at the library for storytime and other activities, afterwards walk over to the Zion Center to meet the animals that live there and go for a hike in the woods.

April 22, 11 am -3 pm, Earth Day Craft at Lakeshore Learning Store. Pop in every Saturday for a craft at your neighborhood Lakeshore Learning Store. In honor of Earth Day learn how to make your very own watering can.

April 22, 11 am-4 pm, Earth Day Indiana Festival at Military Park. Join over 125 organizations with workshops, live music, and food vendors for a full day of fun including a Butterfly Parade at 3 pm. There will be an abundance of children’s activities with special guests like Animalia, Ruditoonz and more. This year’s event will also feature a 5k run/walk and a beer garden.

April 22, 1 pm - 2 pm, Earth Day at the Prairie at Strawtown Koteewi Park. Make nature prints, create recycled art, plant a sunflower, cook up a treat for the birds and even take a hike as you search for wildflowers.

April 22, 1 pm - 4 pm, Earth Day Celebration-Mission Monarch at Cool Creek Nature Center. Plant milkweed and learn about the importance of monarch plants in their mission to support bugs and other creatures. The afternoon will be full of crafts and exciting activities including a hike where you can gather milkweed for your own garden.

April 23, 1 pm-4 pm, 6th Annual Earth Day Celebration at the JCC. More than 45 organizations will offer family-friendly, environmentally-focused, interactive hands-on activities like constructing a mini-greenhouse, making art from recycled materials and going on a nature hike in the wooded grounds to just name a few. Enjoy food trucks and live entertainment.

April 23, 1:30-2:30 pm, Seed Starting at Holliday Park. Get excited for spring by starting your seedlings from scratch. You will be provided with all of the materials necessary during this workshop. Pre-Registration is required and spots fill quickly.

April 23, 2 pm - 5 pm, Z’Green Fest Celebration at Hussey-Mayfield Memorial Public Library.  Participate in interactive programs, tour educational exhibits, enjoy live music and more at this annual celebration of Earth Day and Arbor Day in Zionsville.

April 28, 10 am-5 pm, Celebrate Arbor Day at Conner Prairie. Learn how to create your own treetop outpost and take a tree seedling home with you. Meet foresters and craftsman, make your own tree leaf guide and explore the wonderful world of trees.

April 28, 11:00 am-1:00 pm, Get a Free Tree for Arbor Day at Monument Circle. The Indianapolis Power & Light Company is pleased to offer 1,000 trees for free to celebrate Arbor Day. Attendees will receive free pizza. Those in line by 11 am will be entered into a drawing to win a gift card to Eagle Creek nursery.
