Holiday Train Rides Near Indianapolis

Looking for Polar Express types of holiday trains in Indy for the 2019 holiday season? We’ve been trying all of the holidays trains in the state of Indiana for some time, and we’re not even done yet! Christmas Train Rides in Indiana

Our favorite time of year is winter and Christmas time! We live for bundled up walks in the snow, hot chocolate, making memories, and feeling all the holiday love in the air. One of our favorite things to do during Christmas in Indy is to take a special ride on a train! There are tons of trains running through Central Indiana, and if you’re lucky, you’ll get to ride a train with the big guy in the red suit! Oh, and because we know how important the details are for our readers, we’ve included the important stuff below. Sullivan Express Santa Train

The Sullivan Santa Express (small, trackless train) will take you and your family on a memorable trip to see Santa at the North Pole! Travel through the outdoor garden center at Sullivan’s Hardware store. It’s been set up to be the perfect winter wonderland.

There is a play area for the kids while you wait for your reserved departure time. When the train arrives, your family will be seated together in one car. The short train ride is open-air so dress for the weather!  After leaving the station, the narrated train ride will travel through bear country where you’ll encounter some friendly bears doing some rather unusual things. Upon your arrival at the North Pole, the kids can play in Santa’s workshop as your family takes turns visiting with Kris Kringle himself.

Seating is limited. The cost is a reasonable $50-60 per family. A family ticket includes the whole family, including grandparents! Tickets should be purchased in advance.

Reindeer Ride at Nickel Plate Express

Hop aboard the Nickel Plate Express, departing Forest Park in Noblesville, Indiana! Visit with Santa, sip hot chocolate, and enjoy the holiday lights aboard the Reindeer Ride Express.

2019 event dates: Reindeer Ride operates Nov. 23- Dec. 22 on Saturdays and Sundays. Trains depart three times throughout the afternoon and evening, with boarding beginning 30 minutes prior to departure. Tickets start at $30 for children and $35 for adults.

Polar Express at Whitewater Valley Scenic Railroad

Board the train at Grand Central Station in Connersville to pick up Santa Claus at the North Pole. Once on board, Santa will come and visit with each child on the train to give them the special first gift of Christmas. Hot chocolate and cookies are served on board and the sounds from the hit movie Polar Express will be heard.

2019 event dates will beNovember 15, 16, 17, 22, 23, 24, 29 and 30; December 1, 6, 7, 8, 13, 14, and 15, 2019.. Prices for 2019 Polar Express are $36 per person ages 2 and up.

The train ride is 1 1/2 – 2 hours long.

French Lick Scenic Railway Polar Express Train Ride

Train departures are at 5:30pm & 7:30pm on Friday, Saturday and Sundays, November 8, 2019 – December 23, 2019. The train will also run December 17thm 18th and 19th. Once the train is underway, the conductor will punch your ticket as the book, The Polar Express, is read aloud and enhanced with song and dance by our crew, with a special Cookie & Hot Chocolate presentation, just like in the movie!

When the train pulls into the North Pole, Santa Claus himself jumps on board and he presents each child with their own “first gift of the season,” a shiny silver sleigh bell.  You will also be entertained by Santa’s elves with interactive songs and dance that everyone can participate in.

To make the experience more magical, the children are encouraged to wear their pajamas. Parents are also welcome to join in the fun with their own pajamas! Tickets are $35 per person, children age 1 and under are free.

The Indiana Rail Road Santa Train

Santa arrives by train and each child (even adult children) have a chance to come aboard, see the train and give Santa their wish list. Santa even has some very special guest “critters” including Rudolph, Mr. and Mrs. Snowman and Christmas Mouse. The event is FREE. 

Typically, the train stops at 3pm for two hours in Bargersville during the first week of December to allow Santa time to visit with the children. Later it will arrive in Morgantown, Indiana for more visits with local kids.

Fort Wayne Railroad Historical Society Santa Train

Santa will return aboard his red caboose once again this December! Explore Santa’s Workshop before boarding the Santa Train for a 20 minute ride with the man himself. Tickets are $7 each and children age 3 and under are free.

Trains run 9 am – 5 pm on Saturdays and 12 pm – 5pm on Sundays, December 7th-8th, 14th-15th, 21st-22nd. Ticket sales begin November 13th, 2019.

Hoosier Valley Railroad Museum

Jolly Old St. Nicholas will delight children of all ages aboard the Hoosier Valley Santa Train in Northwest Indiana. All children will receive a special gift from Santa as he visits with each child aboard our heated coach. This magical journey has limited seating, so buy your tickets early! Tickets are $15 adults (16+), $13 youth (6-15), $9 children (1-5). Children under 1 are free as lap children. Save $2 per ticket when you purchase 6 or more tickets. The train ride is about 75 minutes long and runs December 7, 14 & 21st, 2019. Trains depart at 10am, 12:30pm & 2:30pm.
