The 2026 Indiana State Fair runs August 7-23 and is closed on Mondays. This year’s theme is Always a Hit!, presented by the Indianapolis Indians, with baseball-inspired attractions mixed in among all of the Fair traditions.

Learn Some Indiana Lore

Take a walk through the Indiana History Train in the Meijer Family Fun Park.

The Indiana History Train returns for the 2026 Fair and opens at 9 am on Fair days.

Even on a date night, one of the best parts of the Fair is wandering into an attraction you might normally walk right past and discovering something completely unexpected.

Go Karts

Race your way around the mini-Indy track every day from 10 am-10 pm inside the Family Fun Park. Tickets are $6 for a single-seat vehicle and $10 for a double, but we think a head-to-head race is the best way to experience this attraction.

The Taproom

If you can’t make it to the Wine Garden on your date night at the fair, you can experience Indiana flavors at the Taproom located in Grand Hall. From noon to 9 p.m., you can taste beer, spirits, and wines while learning about the agriculture that produces these Hoosier beverages.

Make Memories on the Midway

The Midway belongs on every State Fair date-night list.

Challenge each other to carnival games, win an unnecessarily large stuffed animal, split some cotton candy, and ride something that seemed like a much better idea before you got in line.

If you’re competitive, establish the rules early: winning your date a carnival prize earns far more points than winning the game and keeping it for yourself.

Take a Ride on the Ball State Skyride

For one of the best views of the Fairgrounds, head up into the sky.

The Ball State Skyride costs $7.50 for a one-way ride in 2026 and carries riders above the Fairgrounds. Midway wristbands are not valid for the Skyride.

Go around sunset or after the Midway lights come on and you’ve got one of the most date-night-worthy views at the Indiana State Fair.

Enjoy a Free Concert

Build your Fair date around a concert on the Hoosier Lottery Free Stage.

Concerts are included with paid Fair admission, and general seating is available on a first-come, first-served basis. You can also bring your own lawn chair.

The 2026 lineup includes shows throughout the Fair, with many headline performances beginning at 7:30 pm. Check the schedule for your specific date before heading out because performers and times vary.

Run Away to the Circus Together

Your date night can include a trip to the circus without leaving Indianapolis.

The Big Top Circus presented by Bee Window returns in 2026 with free performances included with Fair admission. Shows are scheduled throughout the Fair, including evening performances at 7 pm on many Fair days.

Acrobatics, daring stunts, and circus performers under the Big Top make this a much more memorable date than another night of dinner and a movie.

See the Butterflies

You may already have butterflies in your stomach, but you can find the real thing at the Indiana State Fair too.

Stop by the DNR area to see the Butterfly Exhibit and enjoy one of the Fair’s quieter attractions together.

It’s a good break before heading right back into the lights, music, crowds, and chaos of the Midway.

Visit the Wine Garden

For an adults-only stop, make your way to the Indiana State Fair Wine Garden presented by Oliver Winery.

The Wine Garden returns for 2026 and hosts special events during the Fair, including the Wine & Spirits Toast of the Fair on August 16.

Grab a drink, find somewhere to sit for a few minutes, and enjoy one of the calmer moments of your Fair date.

Eat Your Way Through Taste of the Fair

New for 2026, Rewind: A VHS Revival transforms the Harvest Pavilion into a celebration of video stores, movies, music, and pop culture nostalgia.

You’ll find oversized hand-painted movie posters, themed displays, interactive experiences, and even a Baseball Movie Theatre.

If you remember actually rewinding your movies before returning them to the video store, this stop may make you feel both nostalgic and ancient.

Play Ball Together

Since the 2026 Indiana State Fair theme is Always a Hit!, you might as well work a little baseball into your date.

Head to Schumacher Stadium, the Fair’s wiffle ball diamond in the Meijer Family Fun Park, and see who has the better swing.

Visit Goat Mountain

Nothing says romance quite like baby goats.

Okay, maybe that’s an Indy with Kids definition of romance.

Goat Mountain returns for the 2026 Fair, and you can even catch the daily tortoise feeding there at 9 am if your “date night” starts especially early.

Stop for a few photos and see which one of you is most likely to start Googling “Can we keep a goat in Indianapolis?” before you leave.

Wander Through the Indiana Arts Building

Slow things down with a walk through the Indiana Arts Building.

Look at the entries together, pick your personal favorites, and debate which pieces should have won a blue ribbon.

This is also a good opportunity to escape the August heat for a bit before heading back outside.

Give yourselves a little spending limit and find something ridiculous or memorable to take home from the Fair.
