If you watch HGTV you know that every home needs a good DIY art piece or two. Here are some area locations for a moms’ night out, or even a fun project date with the kids.
Wine and Canvas (3969 E. 82nd St. Indianapolis) seems to have started the trend of guided DIY home projects. If painting is your thing this is for you. All participants follow step by step instructions to create the same painting on canvas. Prices start at $20 and beverages (including alcohol) are available for sale at these events. Cookies and Canvas events are fun for all ages and cookies are included with registration. No alcohol is served at the Cookies and Canvas Events. Private events can also be booked.
Penn & Beech Make Your Own Candles
With two locations, one in Indianapolis and another in Carmel, Penn & Beech is a fun place to meet up. You’ll take part in the entire candle making process, from designing and blending the fragrance, mixing it in with the wax and pouring the wax into the glass container.
I was lucky enough to visit Board and Brush (442 Main Street, Brownsburg) for a wood sign painting workshop and had a blast. Unlike Wine and Canvas (in my case, as I have no talent for painting) I was actually able to create something I will hang in my home, and I had a blast doing it, so the price (starting at $60) was well worth it. The projects have several steps so there is plenty of time to chat and have a glass of wine (BYO beverages and snacks) while you work. The broad range of project selections, stain options, and paint colors ensures you can make something for any space. On your first visit you get a punch card…visit 5 times and you get a free workshop! They also offer Mommy and Me workshops, Couples Nights, and private parties.
Bath Junkie DIY Bath Products
Bath Junkie would be a super fun stop after a meal at the Cake Bake Shop. Walk a few shops down and inside Bath Junkie, you can mix and blend your favorite scents to create your signature fragrance. Add the fragrance to your choice of lotions, body wash, bath salts and more.
Also on the wood sign bandwagon is Creative Gatherings (Central Indiana). They offer wood sign making for parties and fundraisers and also sell chalkboard signs. Check their website for an event near you or to schedule a private party. Prices start at $25 and they offer a wide variety of sign choices including a large selection of family and faith based signs.
For a variety of DIY projects including pieces made by wheel throwing, glass art, and woodworking the Indy Art Center pop up classes are a great option. With workshops for adults, teens, and kids (starting at age 3) these two-hour sessions offer great variety and start at $15.
At Five thirty Home (20 N. Main St. Zionsville) you can learn the proper techniques for mixing, applying, and finishing Milk Paint in the three-hour Milk paint 101 course. For $65 instructors will help you make a sample board using multiple techniques. They will send you home with the knowledge to complete Milk Paint projects on your own, as well as a small chalkboard or frame finished in your favorite style and color.
