The Indiana Historical Society’s Festival of Trees is an annual Indianapolis holiday event. It’s one of the centerpiece holiday events that takes place at local Indianapolis area museums.
The 2023 Festival of Trees runs from November 10 to January 6. It’s open Tuesday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and on Sundays from noon to 5 p.m. Note that the festival is closed on Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and New Year’s Day.
Indiana Historical Society Festival of Trees
Your whole family will love the transformation of the Indiana Historical Society — it’s a winter wonderland adorned with 78 elaborately decorated trees. Each tree represents different individuals, organizations, and companies from around Indiana. A highlight of the event is the massive, 30-foot centerpiece tree in Eli Lilly Hall, visible throughout most of the building.
For those looking to experience the festival’s magic in the evening, Twilight Tuesdays offer extended hours from 5 to 8 p.m., perfect for a post-work visit or a family night out. These special evenings are scheduled for November 28, December 5, 12, and 19. And of course, the trees are all lit up and look even more magical during the evening hours when it’s dark outside.
Admission to the Festival of Trees in Indianapolis
Admission is $15 for ages 18 and up and $5 for children ages 5 -17 years. Children under five years old are free. Families with an Indiana Access Pass receive $2 admission. Purchase tickets in advance to save $2. Tickets include admission to all History Center exhibits. Discounted tickets are available for Educators, First Responders/Healthcare Workers, Military (active, retired, and veteran), ICAA, Time Traveler Network, and Local History Partner Plus. These tickets can be reserved at the door and require ID for entry.
The festival also includes interactive elements like scavenger hunts. Kids and adults alike can search for the Elf on the Shelf or engage in the unique Weihnachtzgurke hunt, which involves finding 10 pickle ornaments hidden among the trees.
There are extended hours and an expanded menu at the Stardust Terrace Café on the canal level. Enjoy holiday-inspired treats and specialty beverages suitable for all ages. Members of the Indiana Historical Society enjoy a 10 percent discount on café purchases.
