Can You Find a Little Free Library?

Have you heard of the Little Free Library? A friend of mine told me about one that they have in their state and so I was so excited to learn that we have several in the Indianapolis area! Little Free Library is a small wooden book stand (looks like a little house) that property owners build or purchase and place on their property for the community to come visit and borrow a book!

We love reading. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE reading so this concept grabbed our attention. I wish that our homeowners association rules did not exclude us from building a library in our front yard, what a neat project that would be for Lulu and Scout! Luckily we aren’t excluded from from borrowing and reading books from other Little Free Libraries!

As I mentioned, there are several Little Free Libraries in the area and keep an eye on the map because I expect to see more pop up as this movement becomes more popular. Visitors can borrow a book (please return it when you are finished, read a book while they are near the box and contribute books. The Little Free Library that we visited on the lawn in front of the Sycamore School (1750 W. 64th Street, Indianapolis) was the project of Ms. Lykens 4th grade class and it was full of attractive children’s book titles. The selection seemed to have a variety of books for all age groups of children but some Little Free Libraries will vary in their target audience.
