Arbuckle Acres Park

Arbuckle Acres Park in Brownsburg is a Hendricks County park and playground with something for everyone. There are playgrounds for big kids and little kids, shady trees, paved trails, sports courts, picnic shelters, creek views, and plenty of open space to let kids burn off that mysterious, never-ending energy supply.

Located at 200 N. Green Street in Brownsburg, Arbuckle Acres Park is a 52-acre community park filled with mature trees and classic park charm. It is one of the oldest parks in Brownsburg, but it continues to be one of the easiest places to recommend for a simple family outing, a picnic, a playdate, or a low-key day outside.

A Fun Playground Families Will Love

One of the best things about Arbuckle Acres Park is the shade. On hot Indiana days, finding a playground with mature trees nearby feels like winning the parent lottery. The playground area is tucked into a park setting with lots of green space and tree coverage, making it feel more comfortable than many wide-open playgrounds that bake in the sun.

The main playground is great for kids who love to climb, slide, swing, and explore. There are play structures with slides, climbing elements, monkey bars, and swings. It is the kind of playground where kids can make up their own games, race from one feature to another, and stay busy for quite a while.

Within the larger playground, families with younger children will love the Tiny Tots Playground. This area is designed with little ones in mind and gives toddlers and preschoolers a place to play that feels more their size. Instead of trying to keep up with bigger kids on taller equipment, younger children can enjoy imaginative play, smaller-scale climbing, and hands-on fun.

This makes Arbuckle Acres a great choice for families with children of multiple ages. Older kids can enjoy the bigger play structure while younger siblings have a place that feels just right for them.

Walk, Wander, and Follow the StoryWalk

Arbuckle Acres Park is also a wonderful place to bring a stroller, scooters, or kids who need a little movement before or after playground time. The park has paved walking trails, including a loop that connects to the White Lick Creek Greenway. The paved paths make it easy for families to take a walk without committing to a huge hike.

One of the sweetest features for families is the StoryWalk. Kids can read a picture book page by page as they move along the trail, which turns an ordinary walk into a little outdoor adventure. It is a fun way to combine reading, movement, and fresh air, especially for younger kids who may need a little extra motivation to keep walking.

The trails are also great for a reset. If the playground gets busy or everyone needs a calmer moment, take a lap through the park, look for birds, count bridges, or see who can spot the creek first.

White Lick Creek Adds a Nature Adventure & Creek Stomping

White Lick Creek runs through Arbuckle Acres Park and adds a beautiful natural element to the whole experience. The creek area gives the park a more peaceful, wooded feel and makes it feel different from a standard neighborhood playground.

Families can enjoy views of the creek from the trails and bridges, and during warmer months, the creek area is especially fun for kids who love nature watching and creek stomping. Bring water shoes if you plan to explore near the creek, and always supervise children closely around water. Even a shallow creek can be slippery or change quickly after rain.

White Lick Creek has always been one of those magical summer spots where kids can splash, explore, balance, search for tiny creek creatures, and cool off without needing a giant plan.

And now, the creek area has some really thoughtful improvements.

The stabilization project helps protect White Lick Creek and the surrounding park space from erosion, but the best part for families is that natural creek entrances were added so kids can still get down there and play.  Arbuckle Acres gives them room to slow down, look closer, and enjoy the kind of outdoor play that does not need batteries, tickets, or a screen.

Picnic Shelters, Parties, and Easy Meetups

Arbuckle Acres Park is a great picnic park. There are several shelters throughout the park, including some located near White Lick Creek. Families can use the shelters for a casual lunch break, a birthday party, a family gathering, or a playdate with friends.

The shelters can be rented through Brownsburg Parks, which makes this park a convenient option for parties and group events. If you are planning a birthday party, this is one of those locations that gives you built-in entertainment. Kids can play on the playground, run in the grass, walk the trails, and enjoy a picnic without needing a complicated party plan.

Restrooms are available at the park, which is always an important detail when you are visiting with kids. Pack snacks, water bottles, sunscreen, bug spray, and maybe a change of clothes if your kids are likely to find their way toward the creek.

Sports, Open Space, and Room to Move

Beyond the playgrounds and trails, Arbuckle Acres Park also has sports amenities that make it useful for families with active kids. The park includes basketball courts, tennis and pickleball courts, baseball fields, and open green space.

That open space is perfect for throwing a frisbee, kicking a soccer ball, practicing cartwheels, or letting kids run in big loops until everyone is a little more tired. It is also a nice option for families who have kids at very different stages. One child can shoot hoops, another can play on the playground, and another can walk the trail with a parent.

Make It a Brownsburg Day

Because Arbuckle Acres Park is close to downtown Brownsburg, it is easy to turn your park visit into a bigger family outing. Play at the park, walk the trail, then head nearby for lunch, coffee, ice cream, or dinner. This is especially nice when you want an outing that feels like “something to do” but does not require a huge amount of planning. There are so many things to do with kids in Brownsburg.

It is also a great park to visit before or after errands in Brownsburg. Instead of promising “just one quick stop” and then dragging kids through three more places, build in a park break. Everyone wins.
