Forest Park lives up to it’s name with its beautiful trees, plants and flowers in which encompasses this welcoming green space. It’s not your typical city park as it has several unique amenities for all ages to enjoy from their Aquatic Center for endless water fun to the carousel among many other fantastic amenities. Forest Park can easily be a lovely day trip if you wish to explore the entire park, so be sure to bring along plenty of sunscreen, water, and a tasty picnic for your family to fuel up on!
My son really enjoys bringing his bike and riding along the paved paths throughout the park. At age 6 years old, he also loves playing at both playgrounds. One is for younger children and the other is geared for bigger kids. He’s at that stage where he is happy exploring both playgrounds. Near the preschool playground is a carousel and Tom Thumb’s Mini Golf Course. Our family usually has to do one or both of these activities, when we come to Forest Park.
One area in particular that I find to be very peaceful to sit and read at is the Angel of Hope Memorial Garden. It is a beautiful memorial that honors infants and children that left this Earth all too soon. The garden was dedicated on May 4, 2014, and it’s located near the south park entrance. Every December 6th at 7pm, the public is invited here for an annual candlelight ceremony.
