Kids from all over Indianapolis love dropping off a letter in the Santa Mailbox in downtown Indy on Monument Circle. The beautifully decorated USPS post box is installed every year before Thanksgiving so that all of the children can drop off their wish lists and letters to Santa Claus. Additionally, Monument Circle is one of the places with the best Christmas lights in Indy. You can drive around the Circle or you can get out of your car and walk-thru the light displays all around the Circle. There’s even a light projection show several times each night.
Santa Mailbox Indianapolis
Writing letters to Santa at home and then taking an evening to head downtown and drop them in the box is one of our annual traditions, and I love that it’s free and so much fun to do! The US Postal Service has installed the Santa Letter Mailbox on the Circle in Downtown Indianapolis and it’s now ready to accept your letters! Everyone is invited to write a letter to Santa, put it in an envelope with a self addressed stamped envelope and drop it into the mailbox. All letters generally must be deposited by December 21st to receive a reply, but the website this year says that the mailbox will be there until December 27th.
It’s been said that Santa and his elves will write a letter back to each child, but we have about a 50% success rate with receiving letters and last year, I didn’t know anyone who actually got one in return. In spite of it all, it’s still one of our favorite activities. There are so many things to do while you’re downtown on Monument Circle during the holidays.
The mailbox will be on the east side of the Circle, facing Market street.

Do you know if they are still sending letters out to the kids? My daughter keeps asking about it. I just want to make sure her’s didn’t get lost.
We didn’t get ours either! I’m waiting for a response to an email I sent to ask about it.
