Artfully designed, shelves brimming with books begging to be read, delightful little nooks tucked away for reading or gathering your book club, and a chess board sitting quietly among it all, waiting for the next player’s move. Indy Reads Books is a gem of a stop for moms looking to sneak away for an hour or for families in search of a fun stop on Mass Ave.
I love the playfully interactive story time held the 4th Saturday of the month at 11:30am at Indy Reads Books.
Hosted by the Junior League of Indianapolis, the kids in attendance are the ones that really steer the ship for this story time. Isn’t that just perfect? Kids are encouraged to pull a book off of the shelf in the Children’s Section and hand it to the storyteller. The story teller collects them in a pile, gathers the kids around, and reads directly from the stack. This story time is so casual, it’s no problem if the little ones drop off early or the bigger kids who bore from a book decide to wander the store.
Did I mention that all kids books are only $1? It’s tough not to justify taking a load home. That is, if you’re able to convince the kiddos to leave. Indy Reads Books is so inviting, you might just need to stay for an hour or two or three…
Indy Reads Books is located at 911 Massachusetts Avenue, directly across from Black Market. Each purchase you make goes directly toward assisting with literacy programs in the greater Indianapolis area.

Jeanine is constantly mistaken for a cross between Gisele Bunchen and Charlize Theron… or at least wishes she was. At 5 feet tall, she makes up for her small stature by chasing after 2 crazy kids, taking over the world as a marketing manager for the DNR, spending time with her hubs, and of course, being all Chief Mom Officer-y for theCityMoms. Jeanine loves writing, yoga, fashionable style, exploring the great outdoors, Michigan Wolverine football and Thai food but finds little time to indulge in them. Find her blog at the Momista.
