Stephens Park | Brownsburg

Written by Ashley Dykton

Brownsburg offers families many amenities, including some of the best parks on the west side of Indianapolis. Stephens Park is a 3.2-acre park open year-round from dawn to dusk. Just down the street from Williams Park, Stephens Park offers distinctive features that set it apart and make it a unique public space to visit in Hendricks County.

Classic Park with All Your Favorite Features

The playground’s centerpiece is a large structure with various climbing features and a couple of slides. A bridge connects one part of the play area to the other. Due to the need to climb to get onto the equipment, this structure is recommended for older kids. Younger children will need assistance and close supervision from an adult.

The playground has additional play features for children to enjoy. These include two swing elements, a circular spinning feature, a smaller spinning feature with an enclosed seat, and a large sphere-shaped rope climbing structure.

The playground equipment itself is not wheelchair accessible, but the park offers a rubberized walking surface and fake turf that makes it easier to move around. A sensory wall within easy reach has a handle you can turn to make a color wheel change or gears grind. This feature also includes rolling, circular knobs to turn, chimes you can hit, and a plastic drum that can be pounded. There is a paved walking trail that encircles the park as well.

Pickleball Courts and Other Amenities

Stephens Park offers 6 pickleball courts. Don’t know what pickleball is? Pickleball is played with paddles between the size of a ping pong paddle and a tennis racquet. 2-4 players hit a ball with holes – like a Wiffle ball – back and forth on a court similar to a mini tennis court.
A year-round restroom facility with handicap-accessible water fountains is located next to the exercise equipment and pickleball courts. The park also has ample parking with 25 spaces available.

Free Outdoor Exercise Equipment

A highlight of Stephens Park is the exercise machines for public use to encourage strength training, muscle toning, and cardio workouts. The exercise equipment includes ellipticals and stationary bikes, among others, to help promote a healthy lifestyle.

One large pavilion has two picnic tables, perfect for lunches and snacks while visiting the park. Residents and visitors can also rent the pavilion to host parties or events.
