The weather is dreary and cold, or perhaps it’s a blazing hot summer day. Where do you take the kids? Maybe you just want to find a nice place where you can relax while the kids have fun at an indoor play place. Here’s the perfect free Brownsburg indoor playground.
The Center at The Well Community Church has the answer. This community center is so welcoming and inviting with loads of natural light coming in through the large windows. The indoor play area is perfect for kids of all ages. It is hard to believe, but this play space is free!
PLEASE NOTE: Open play hours at The Center are subject to change as this is a volunteer-run effort. Call ahead or check the website for changes.
A Place for Kids to be Kids
When you arrive at The Center, you will be greeted and asked to fill out a waiver form. This is easy and takes less than 5 minutes. Once you have it filled out, you are good to go! Kids need to take off their shoes and can put them in one of the many available shoe cubbies. Coat racks are also available to hold your gear during the cold winter months.
Three Levels to Climb and Explore
The play area is one big open space with plenty of seating. You can find comfy couches, diner-style booths, and tables with chairs to spread out your stuff. I have also seen playgroups come in and request a fold-out table and chairs so that they can all sit together.
Now it is time to let the kids roam free! They will have an absolute blast climbing in the three-level play structure. This indoor playground features plenty of climbing obstacles and multiple slides. My kids love creating their own obstacle courses throughout the play structure to see who can be the fastest.
Toys for Imaginative Play
The ground level of the play structure and the surrounding areas are stocked with toys for the kids to play with. A set of large wooden cabinets are filled with toys, and yes, you can bring out any you would like. You can find larger play items, such as a play kitchen, kids’ picnic table, preschool slide, climber, cars, trucks, and so much more! Older kids can even enjoy foosball out in the hall.
There is a wide open space in the middle of the room, perfect for tricycles and ride-on toys. Kids often work together to ride in big groups across the space or will lead their own races. It is so fun to see them all making friends and including one another. Opposite the play structure, you will see a large stage. This elevated platform draws kids towards it and encourages them to create their own mini-plays or performances with friends.
A Gift to the Community
This is a really fun space where the kids are allowed to explore and play freely. With the wide variety of materials, your kids are sure to work on their fine and gross motor skills, have social interaction with their peers, and engage in imaginative play.
All of the items at The Well are things that have been repurposed or donated. It is amazing to see what the community came together to create and it is wonderful that all of these items have found new life bringing joy to so many children. It’s especially a perfect place to play with a toddler or preschooler.
Make a Day of It
When we go to The Center, we make plans to stay from open to close. I always pack up snacks and lunches, water bottles, and make sure the diaper bag is stocked. Pack food for yourself too!
Your kids will likely be engaged in play, so I typically bring my laptop or a book to read while I enjoy a moment to myself. I love that I can just look up and see where my kids are playing. If you have a child who is in diapers or pull-ups, a diaper changing station is located right outside of the play area. You can also find restrooms and water fountains down the hall.
Family Fun Days and Party Rentals
The Well Community Center really values creating opportunities to connect with family. On Thursdays, you can reserve a 2-hour time frame for your own private family fun in The Center for only $30. You can bring up to 15 people to enjoy this fantastic indoor play space for a baby shower or a birthday party place or any other gathering. The center is not open to the public on these days.
If you are looking for a venue to host a birthday party, The Center is available to rent over the weekends. Rentals include a 3-hour block of time for your party. You will have access to the play structure, toys, seating, and dining areas, and even a small kitchen space. You are welcome to bring in your own food and drink. If you need additional seating, eight-foot tables with chairs are available by request. You can also reserve audio and visual equipment for an additional fee.
Weekend party fees are $250 for 3 hours at the time of publishing and the space can hold up to 200 people. Additional hours are $100 each. I love that this space is all yours during the rental and you aren’t off in a separate party room. Everyone gets to be together and enjoy your party without interruption.
Special Events
In addition to regular open hours, The Center puts on special events throughout the year. During the school year, you can sign up for a Parents’ Night Out. These are typically scheduled for the 2nd Saturday of each month and run from 6-8:30 pm. You can expect your child to have tons of fun while you get a break for yourself or to enjoy with your significant other. Children ages 4-11 are welcome, along with a limited number of 2 and 3-year-old siblings. Activities include a snack, craft, Bible story, magic show, science experiment, and playtime. Advance registration is required and you’ll need to fill out a waiver.
Occasionally throughout the week, The Well has special events scheduled for kids in The Center. Follow the church’s Facebook page to stay up-to-date on those events. We have seen cookie decorating at Christmas, egg hunts at Easter, and crafting events.
Creating a Sense of Community at The Well
There are a few main rules to keep in mind while enjoying your time at The Center.
- Please keep all food in the table areas.
- Socks must be worn at all times.
- Toys should not go up into the play structure.
- Children are encouraged to take ownership of the space. When you are all done playing, ask your child to help clean up some of the toys. Cleaning up just two or three toys helps keep the space tidy and ready for the next people to enjoy. This also makes it a safe environment for all. Make sure to have your child visit the front desk to let them know they helped out and they will be rewarded with a small treat as a sign of appreciation.
