Head to Hendricks County for Free Community Summer Concerts

This summer, some of the best parks in Hendricks County will be offering free family entertainment through several concert series. Enjoy some live music while taking advantage of awesome park amenities. Outdoor concerts are always an excellent opportunity to take the family to savor summer nights under the stars. Make sure you plan to arrive early as space is limited and don’t forget a picnic or snacks!

Free Outdoor Concerts in Avon

Summer Concert Series

Murphy Aquatic Park, 753 S County Road 625 E, Avon

Concerts are from 7-9 pm on June 16, July 2, and August 11.

Murphy Aquatic Park is hosting its first-ever FREE Summer Concert series this summer. The first show on June 16 will feature Parrots of the Caribbean, a Jimmy Buffet cover band. Guests are encouraged to wear “Jimmy Buffet attire” to get in the festive spirit. The July 2 concert brings Jenna Rose and the Ramblers to the stage, and there will be fireworks after the show. The summer concert series concludes on August 11 with Common Ground, who will provide professional quality dance music.

Gates for the concerts open at 6 pm and guests are encouraged to arrive early to secure a spot as space and provided chairs are limited. Guests may also bring their own chairs and will have free access to the waterpark and pool throughout the night. No outside food and drinks will be allowed, but concessions will be available for purchase at the Compass Café and adult beverages will be served by Hoppy Vines.

Amphitheater Series

Washington Township Park Amphitheater, ​115 S. County Road 575, Avon

Concerts are from 7-9 pm on July 21 and August 18.

Enjoy live music at the Washington Park Amphitheater. Bring blankets and chairs to sit on the lawn and plan to purchase refreshments from the variety of food trucks on-site. The free concerts are for all ages. The amphitheater is located at the lower end of the park by the event building and fishing pond. This area also features a covered pavilion with picnic tables and bathrooms, a splash pad, and a playground. More details on the concert lineup will be released closer to the event date.

Summer Soundtracks

Arbuckle Acres Park, 200 N Green St, Brownsburg

Concerts are from 6-8 pm on June 3 and August 12.

Town Hall Green, 61 N Green St, Brownsburg

Concerts are from 5-7 pm on June 29, July 27, and August 31.

The Town of Brownsburg Parks’ “Summer Soundtracks” free concert series includes five live events featuring national and up-and-coming artists. Two of these concerts will be at Arbuckle Acres Park. Jon McLaughlin will perform on June 3, and you can see Groovesmash Entertainment on August 12. Arbuckle Acres Park offers plenty of parking, a playground, and a large open space to set up chairs and blankets for lawn seating. There will also be lawn games and food and drink vendors.

Three other concerts will be at the Brownsburg Town Hall Green during their weekly Farmer’s Market. Those concerts include Ladyland on June 29, The Stampede String Band on July 27, and Nate Wolfe on August 31. Enjoy these concerts while you shop at the farmer’s market. Families are encouraged to bring chairs or blankets to the concerts to enjoy the live entertainment.

Evenings in Ellis

Ellis Park Amphitheater, 600 E Main St, Danville

Concerts start at 7 pm on June 9, July 14, and August 11.

Enjoy free concerts in Danville throughout the summer at Ellis Park. Evenings in Ellis is a free concert series at the Ellis Park Amphitheater. Performing on June 9 will be Fleetwood Dreams ( a Fleetwood Mac Tribute band), and on July 14 you can enjoy The Rigbys (a Beatles Tribute band). New Frontiers (Journey Tribute) will close out the series on August 11. Food vendors and Indy Beer Taps will be on-site offering refreshments, beer, and wine for purchase. Ellis Park also has a fun playground for children. The Gill Family Aquatic Center is right by the park — conveniently located if your family wants to visit before the concert.

Free Outdoor Concerts in Pittsboro

Bluegrass Festival

Scamahorn Park, 130 East Main Street, Pittsboro

The festival is from 2-7 pm on July 8.

The second annual Pittsboro Parks Department Bluegrass Festival will take place at Scamahorn Park and will feature three of the finest Bluegrass bands in the Midwest. The festival is free to the public. Scamahorn Park also offers a playground and sports courts to enjoy as well. The event will have food trucks, area vendors, and more. More details regarding the bands and event information will be available soon.

Free Outdoor Concerts in Plainfield

Hummel Park Summer Concert Series

Hummel Park, 1500 S. Center St., Plainfield

Concerts start at 7 pm on June 3, July 22, August 26, and September 9.

Hummel Park will be hosting a Summer Concert Series at their Performing Arts Center on several Saturdays throughout the summer. These concerts offer free fun for the whole family and will also feature food vendors. Join the fun on June 3 to catch Big Rosco & the Hammers performing hits from the 80s through today. On July 22, local band Twisted Gold will play their favorite hits of the 1960s. The August 26 show features the Indianapolis Jazz Orchestra and on September 9 you can hear the 1950s piano-pumping sounds of Rocking Terry Lee.

There is a large grass field with space for seating up to 1,500 people, so bring chairs and blankets. The Hummel Park Amphitheater is located on the side of the park that can be accessed by crossing the bridge by the basketball courts or from Sugar Grove Road. There is plenty of parking. Hummel Park offers a restroom facility by the performing arts center, two separate playgrounds, sports courts, walking trails, creek stomping, and a splash pad.

There’s so much happening in Hendrick’s County, you’ll want to head west of Indy with your family every chance you get. Add these free family-friendly concerts to your calendar and get ready to make some classic summer memories.
