Smiley Indoor Playground & Arcade | An Epic Day of Indoor Fun

There’s an entirely unique indoor playground in Castleton with the largest ball pit EVER, ball cannons, trampolines, interactive wall screen games, a sand pit, virtual reality, an arcade, and several birthday party rooms. It’s hard to describe Smiley Indoor Playground & Arcade because there isn’t anything like it. But we’re pretty certain that you’re going to skip those free indoor playgrounds for a season and check out the latest addition to our Indy Indoor Places to Play Guide. You might even think about hosting your next children’s birthday party here.

Smiley Indoor Playground & Arcade

You won’t find bounce houses at Smiley Indoor Playground & Arcade, the newest indoor playland to hit Indianapolis, but you will find EVERYTHING else. I’m not even exaggerating when I tell you that Smiley is filled wall to wall with fun and games for the whole family. Strap in for an epic day of indoor fun!

Picture a giant ball pit with more square footage than the average family home and in that ball pit there are slides, teeter totters, spinny-go-round things, a scoop that kids can fill with balls and operate with a button so that it dumps down on top of them, and so many other things that don’t even have names. Kids can operate ball cannons, play trampoline basketball, slide down the super slide, and ride on automated rides. There’s also a mini rock wall climbing area with a foam pit below.

Little boy jumping on giant trampoline in a ball pit in an indoor play place in Indianapolis, Indiana called Smiley.

If your little ones are a bit hesitant to wade or swim through the massive ball pit, there’s a cordoned off area with an obstacle course climber playground and merry-go-round in the same room. There is a little submarine with tiny movements that can fit several children at once. You can also find a rice pit playground with dump trucks, pails, and sand toys that can occupy a child for hours! Smiley is quickly becoming a really popular fun place for kids to play on a rainy day.

The best part about Smiley is that you can bring the whole family. I know children of all ages will have a blast from babies to teenagers. The older kids can often be found on the virtual side. This area has interactive projection screens on the floor and up on the wall which you can play by either stepping on the virtual bugs or throwing balls at targets on the screens. My older son could spend his entire time on this side. There are also legos, virtual reality games, and an entire giant arcade in the back room.

Take a little break in the restaurant/snack stand area, you deserve it! They’re serving up pizza, wings, cajun seafood, mac and cheese, soft pretzels, fried rice, chicken tenders, and more, plus our favorite, Thai rolled ice cream! If you don’t know what this is, you HAVE to make sure you order some while you’re here, and watch it being made, it’s an art.

There is plenty of seating in the cafe area (which still has a view of the entire main play area), in booths, on stools overlooking the ballpit, and on comfortable couches and massage chairs on the virtual side. With free wifi, this is also a great place for parents to work while kids play.

Included in your admission is the massive ball pit, climber and ball launcher area, little kids area, trampoline basketball, slides, jungle gym, and several other rooms of fun! The interactive side is also included with the virtual floor and wall screens where kids can play games that are projected, some of them situated above a ball pit where kids can throw the balls at the wall to wipe out birds or stack stars. It’s a lot of fun and much easier for little ones than the typical video arcade game.

Another added element is in the interactive rice room. That’s right, one of the interactive games takes place on the floor of an area that’s covered with millions of grains of rice. This room has formerly been the snow room and the sand room, so they may rotate the exact sensory experience but whichever one it is when you go, be prepared for your child to want to stay for a really long time!

Next up is the lego and construction room. Kids can visit various play stations to create and build using GIANT LEGO bricks, Duplo blocks, lego bricks, magnetic tiles, wooden blocks. and other fun constructing pieces. This low-key, low-tech room is great for taking a breather after running wild in the indoor park areas.

There’s also a small area with some virtual reality games just for little kids. Think of it as an intro to VR…

Virtual Reality you ask? Well, the other side of Smiley is a virtual reality gamer’s dream! Several VR experiences are a part of the Parallel World and it’s a must-do for teens and adults. Groups of gamers can rent out VR pods and play their favorite games in this fun environment (think karaoke rooms but for virtual reality gaming). There are even large private rooms for rental for a premium virtual reality gaming experience.
