Things To Do This Weekend

I cannot believe that 2022 is coming to an end. I know many people that are really looking forward to the end of 2022. But the promise of a new beginning in the new year is always something to look forward to.

While I’m not a resolution-setting-type person, I do like to plan things I’d like to do in the new year. One thing I want to do in 2023 is spend more time outdoors and being active.

I was first introduced to the 1000 hours outdoors challenge in 2020 and was immediately intrigued and overwhelmed. A thousand hours sounds like a lot. It’s less than 3 hours per day but still feels like a lot when you live in the Midwest.

I don’t know if we’ll log it (I’m not a challenge-type person either) but I really want to try it. We already spend a lot of time outdoors in the warm seasons, so we’ll try to be more intentional about outdoor time in the cold months.

As I reflect on the accomplishments of 2022, I’m so proud of our Indy With Kids team. Without the contribution of so many dedicated individuals, I’d never be able to provide such amazing opportunities to Indianapolis families. I’m so thankful for them and for our readers. Your support of Indy With Kids is what keeps us going! So, let’s continue to #PlayIndy into 2022.

7 Things to Do This Weekend

Last weekend for Christmas Nights of Lights

Christmas Nights of Lights is the coolest light show to hit Indianapolis during the holiday season and it’s ending this weekend. After taking the title of BEST drive-through light show in Indy with over one million lights illuminating the Indiana State Fairgrounds it is something you don’t want to miss. Last chance is this Sunday, January 1, 2023.

Winter Market at The AMP

Every Saturday this winter folks can visit the longest-running and only winter market in downtown Indianapolis. At the market, you will find some of Indiana’s best local produce farmers, and artisan food producers, including sustainably raised meats and dairy products, unique baked goods, preserved and fermented foods, and more! Bring family and friends, enjoy live music and good food, and let your kids play in the kids’ area!

Noon Years Eve

With all the other festivities filling the month of December, it can be easy to forget the holiday that falls on the last day of the month. Make your plans now for New Year’s Eve! There are so many great places in Indianapolis to celebrate the new year with your family. Best of all, your littlest ones can join the party and still make it home for bedtime.

Scooby Doo & All You Can Eat

Ruh Rho Raggy! Meet your favorite crime fighters and watch the Fuel take on the meddling Cincinnati Cyclones in special Scooby Doo jerseys that fans will have the opportunity to bid on live after the game. It’s also All You Can Eat Night, so fans can enjoy unlimited hot dogs, hamburgers and popcorn all FREE with a game ticket!

First Hike of the Year

Join the Park Naturalist and celebrate your first hike of the year at Pock Woods in Avon! You’ll be looking for signs of animal homes and wildlife. Afterwards, relax with hot beverages. Register beforehand.

Luminary Hike

If one of your resolutions is to get outdoors more, be sure to visit Mounds State Park on Sunday, January 1 for the Luminary Hike. Stroll along an easy route to the Great Mound while the Naturalist tells you about the stories and lore that have grown up around Mounds State Park. The Nature Center will open at 4:30 p.m. to welcome hikers with warm beverages and will close again at 5:30 p.m. once the hike begins.

Indoor Playground Fun

Free indoor playgrounds are an awesome place to take your kids in Indianapolis! If you’re looking for a place your kids can play inside, we have five play spaces with free admission. While we love being outdoors sometimes in the bitter winter we enjoy a warm indoor option or two.
