Located minutes from Downtown Indianapolis and the Indianapolis International Airport, the city of Plainfield has seen an incredible number of new residents moving in. In the last few years, the town of Plainfield has welcomed a great number of new families moving from across the nation. With the number of residents increasing yearly, there’s no doubt the number of kid-friendly outings for kids has also increased. Plainfield offers many options for indoor and outdoor fun for families.

Indoor Activities in Plainfield

Sky Zone

851 Columbia Road Ste. 172, Plainfield 46168

Sky Zone is a fun jump park that brings outdoor activities indoors so guests can visit regardless the season or the weather. Sky Zone in Plainfield is a favorite for my high energy boys, they love jumping and checking out everything this indoor park offers. Over the last few years, this location has added some new activities such a rock-climbing wall, Ninja warrior course, and wipe out.

Sky zone offers some great deals for admission such as walk-in Early bird special until Noon, jump for $10 per person. Wingman Wednesday is another great deal where it’s buy one get one free admission. A favorite for the weekend is Hoppy hour offered on Fridays from 3-5 pm for only $10 admission. For the littles in the family, there is a little leaper for kids ages 5 and under every Saturday, they also bring out various balls, noodles, and toys for little to play with. One of our family’s favorites is the Glow After Dark Jump–where you’ll find colored lasers and the black light transforms the entire space into a giant glow in the dark jumping party. A great idea for a family date night.

U-Paint Studio

1820 E Main Street, Plainfield 46168

With various locations across central Indiana, U-paint Studio has become a fun and creative way for families to connect and paint together. And, at the end families get to keep their pottery art and display it or gift it to loved ones. The studio in Plainfield offers each month a “paint a story” session where a story is read and then everyone can paint the accommodating art piece from the book. There are homeschool days for families to come and paint as an art day of homeschool. The studio offers pottery painting classes once a month. This location also allows for kids parties with different pottery choices, as well as private parties.

Richard A. Carlucci Recreation & Aquatic Center

651 Vestal Road, Plainfield 46168

The Richard Carlucci Aquatic Center offers lots to its residents and guests, our family loves taking swimming at this center and participating in various activities throughout the year. The center offers a large indoor walking/ running track, a large fitness center, fitness classes, basketball courts, an indoor splash pool, kids and toddler indoor play space and sports teams for children. During the year, the center also hosts numerous events such a Sat-Terror Day for Halloween, fall festival, International festival, pictures with Santa, daddy/daughter dances and run/walk series. A great place for families to check out all year long.

Frigid Frog

1702 E Main Street #101, Plainfield 46168

Frigid Frog is all about family time, over the years they have expanded to include a large store that offers a fun play space for kids and families. This location offers a wide selection of shaved ice, popcorn, cotton candy, ice cream, and coffee. Once you have a delicious treat head back to the play space equipped with a large screen tv, couches, tables, foosball table, basketball, and lots of toys to keep kids of all ages entertained.

Tree House at Plainfield Christian Church

800 Dan Jones Road, Plainfield 46168

The Tree House at the Plainfield Christian Church is a wonderful location for parents to take their littles for a day of play. It’s free of charge and opened to the public Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9-11 am and 1-3pm. The tree house has a large tree house structure with slides and climbing toys for kids to play on. There are also several rides on toys, a Lego table, train table, large car mat, soft foam play structures. As well as a baby area for littles who are not walking just yet. The baby area has all sorts of toys and soft play structures for littles to explore. The treehouse also has a small kitchen area equipped with free coffee for parents and a water refill station for those active kids.

The Flip Zone

880 Andico Road, Plainfield 46168

The Flip Zone Plainfield offers cheer and tumbling, as well as a preschool three days a week. They also have open gym specials for those who attend or don’t attend the gym. Every Thursday from 10-11 am, it’s preschool open gym time where kids can work on various skills they’ve learned or simply have fun with the foam pit, balance beam, and bars. On Saturdays, school-aged children can enjoy open gym hours from 1-2 pm. Birthday parties and private events can also be hosted at this location.

Toy Buzz & Fizz

This toy store is a hidden gem in downtown Plainfield, it has all sorts of toys that are great for kids and the kid-at-heart adults. As you walk in there’s a display for Funko Pop with all sorts of characters, from superheroes to villains to Star Wars characters. The back of the store is every kid’s dreams come true; a room full of hot wheels, comic books and Legos. There is a Lego loose play area for kids and adults to check out all the Legos. A great place to take the kids to check out new and vintage toys.

Biggby Coffee

302 N Dan Jones Road, Plainfield 46168

We usually don’t think of a coffee shop as a family outing, but this Biggby coffee location offers more for kids than your typical coffee shop. Each first Tuesday of the month the Plainfield-Guilford township public library hosts a story time and craft for free, after the story time each child can receive a free kid drink. The shop also has lots of great games and coloring pages for families to enjoy during their visit.

Doctor Who Museum

The only Doctor Who Museum in the entire United States, whether you or someone in your family is a fan of doctor who, this is great museum and retail shop in visit. A popular British show, doctor who fan Keith Bradbury decided to open a location in Camby, In. A museum with all things pertaining to the series, as well as a shop for guests to check out. The Who North America hosts activities and events including cosplay workshops, game nights and fan gatherings throughout the year. Also, two events The Doctoberfest in late October and The All-Things Handmade Craft Show each summer.

Capitol Sports Center

1915 Gladden Road, Plainfield 46168

Capitol Sports Center is a premium sports facility that has been premier venue for youth and adult volleyball training and tournaments in the Midwest area since 1995, it’s also the home of Circle City Volleyball. The facility includes multiple volleyball courts, racquetball courts, fitness center and much more.

Plainfield-Guilford Township Public Library

The Plainfield-Guilford Township Public Library is more than your typical library. The children’s area is equipped with all sorts of toys for kids to play with, a large train table, Lego table, beautiful play kitchen with accessories and lots of great puzzles. The library also offers various events throughout the year, such as summer reading club party, back to school bash, Halloween trick or treating and visits from authors and painters.

Outdoor Activities

Splash Island Family Water Park

One of Plainfield’s, if not all of Indy’s most popular family destination during summer is the outdoors Splash Island Family Water Park. It’s over four acres of Caribbean-themed outdoor water park fun for the entire family. the park features water slides, a 900-foot lazy river, and an interactive children’s play area. The area has lots of lounge style chairs and picnic tables for guest to sit and soak up the sun. the park is opened from Memorial Day through Labor Day weekend. Also, check out the Indoor Splash Island Water Park during the fall and winter!

White Lick Creek

Various locations throughout Plainfield

White Lick creek runs through the majority of Plainfield and north towards other towns within Hendricks county. This is great creek stomping with kids during the summer months. It’s a great place to cool down or as my kids like to do create a “construction site” with their dump trucks and cars.

Sodalis Nature Park

7700 S County Rd 975 E, Plainfield 46168

Named after an endangered Indiana bat that inhabit the park, Sodalis Nature Park is 210-acre nature park and a great place to take the kids to enjoy nature. It features 3.5 miles of nature trails for walking and hiking within its beautiful mature trees. My kids have enjoyed walking the trails and discovering all that nature has to offer. The park has a 5.5-acre pond with a floating dock for fishing during the warmer months and a beautiful landscape to enjoy the scenery. There are also wildlife viewing platforms with a poster of animals that are inhabitants to the park and picnic areas. The park is open all year long from dawn to dusk.

Plainfield Vandalia Trails

Township Line Road, Hunt St. to CR 500 E

The Vandalia Trail is the longest open component of the national road heritage trail, it spans 4.6 mile segment in the town of Plainfield. The trail is perfect for running, walking, jogging, bike rides and much more. It’s made with smooth pavement and is well-maintained, allowing those in wheelchairs to easily access it. It’s a great trail to take kids bike riding or to simply walk and enjoy nature.

Blue Heron Fishing Lake

Blue heron fishing lake is a great place for grandparents and parents to teach kids fishing. This lake is a favorite among locals for fishing. They type of fish include catfish, bass, and blue gill. Fishing is a relaxing way to spend time with family.

Aircraft Spotting

4154 S Access Road, Indianapolis 46241

This is a hidden gem within our aviation family, my husband being a pilot for a major airline enjoys showing our kids all the different aircraft when they take off and land. This cell phone lot location is less than 5 minutes from Plainfield and our family has enjoyed having a picnic in the bed of the truck and watching all the aircraft land and take off.

Al and Jan Barker Sports Complex

451 Vestal Road, Plainfield 46168

A sports complex dedicated to outdoor sports for youth and adult sports for the town of Plainfield. When the sports complex isn’t used by various teams, families can enjoy their very own soccer game. There are restrooms nearby and ample parking spaces.

Performing Arts Center-Hummel Park

5373 Sugar Grove Road, Plainfield 46168

The Hummel Park Performing Arts Center & Hummel Park is a great place for families to picnic and enjoy live performances by local and national bands. The large lawn area can seat up to 1,500 people during the summer. During the 4th of July there are great performances along with festivals for families to attend. Next to the lawn is a restroom facility, picnic tables and playground, there is also ample parking spaces, as well as handicap parking.

Oak Tree Golf Course

What kid doesn’t love a game of golf, while Oak Tree Golf is committed to providing a great golf experience, they also provide junior golf. They are committed to growing the game of golf with several clinics, tournaments, and jr golf leagues. Families can also visit for daily play with 9- or 18-hole options, as well as walking or with a cart. A great way to spend an outing outdoors with kids.
