End-of-Summer Fun in Indy: This or That?

As the long days of summer start to slip away, many families in Indianapolis find themselves asking the same question: What should we do before fall officially arrives? Between school schedules, earlier sunsets, and shifting weather, it can feel like a race to squeeze in all those summer bucket-list activities.

On this week’s FOX59 segment, I joined the team to play a special Indianapolis edition of the viral This or That social media game. It’s a fun way to think through your options and discover some new family favorites before the season changes. Here are some of the highlights — see which ones your family would choose! And don’t forget to check out our events calendar for all of the best things to do in Indianapolis.

Splash Pad or Water Park?

If you’re looking for a quick after-school adventure, splash pads are a winner. Many around the city remain open, making them the perfect spot to burn off extra energy before dinner.

But if your kids are craving a bigger splash, Indy’s water parks are still open on weekends. End-of-season perks include special “dog swim” days when pups get their turn to enjoy the pools before they close for good. It’s a can’t-miss treat for animal-loving families!

Indians Baseball or Indy Eleven Soccer?

Baseball feels like summer, while soccer leans into fall vibes, so why not pick both? Victory Field is wrapping up the season with fun theme nights at the Indianapolis Indians games like Superhero Night and STEAM Night, where kids can explore hands-on exhibits from local tech companies.

Meanwhile, an Indy Eleven match at Carroll Stadium offers energy, community spirit, and the perfect bridge into cooler-weather activities. Either way, you’ll enjoy a great night out under the stadium lights.

Canal Walk or Monon Trail?

When the heat lingers, shade is your friend. A bike ride along the Monon Trail offers plenty of opportunities to stop for lunch, grab ice cream, and people-watch alongside other families.

If you’d rather keep things downtown, the Canal Walk has paddle boats, bike rentals, and easy access to nearby museums. Both are great options for exercise, fresh air, and family time.

Conner Prairie or Newfields 100 Acres Art Park?

This one’s almost impossible to choose. Conner Prairie’s outdoor adventures are legendary, and the upcoming Hot Air Balloon Festival is the largest in Indiana. In the fall, don’t miss their corn maze and the Headless Horseman evenings.

Newfields’ 100 Acres Art Park, on the other hand, is free, interactive, and inspiring. Kids can climb, explore, and connect with art in ways you won’t find anywhere else. For many families, the decision might just come down to time — or maybe it’s worth doing both.

Concert in the Park or Drive-In at Tibbs?

Both are classic summer send-offs. A free outdoor concert in the park lets kids run, friends gather, and families enjoy music without worrying about whispering through a movie.

But if you’re ready for a nostalgic experience, Tibbs Drive-In is the place. Pack your chairs, bring snacks, and enjoy a double feature under the stars. It’s one of Indy’s best family traditions.

Flower Farm or Berry Picking?

Late summer still offers plenty of opportunities to pick raspberries, especially at places like Spencer Farm. Apple season is beginning, too, making this the perfect time to plan a day trip.

If flowers are more your thing, sunflower farms are in peak bloom right now. Many families assume sunflowers are a fall activity, but in Indiana, they shine brightest in late summer. Not only are they beautiful, but they also make for unforgettable family photos.

End of Summer Wrap Up

Whether your family chooses the splash pad or water park, soccer or baseball, or flowers over berries, the real goal is to make memories together before the leaves start turning. End-of-summer adventures don’t have to be complicated — sometimes it’s as simple as asking your kids, “This or that?”

Here’s to one last splash, scoop of ice cream, and sunset concert before fall arrives.
