Open Gym Indoor Play Time

If you’re looking for an indoor place to play for your preschooler, Indy Stars Gymnastics (8070 Georgetown Rd, Indianapolis, IN 46268) offers open gym times several times throughout the week. We found this to be a fun, inexpensive place to play, and it was a great spot to plan a playdate and meet up with our friends!

Indy Stars Gymnastics Preschool Open Gym

POP or Preschool Open Play is when they Indy Stars gym opens to the public for a fun morning of unstructured play on the gym equipment. Parents are expected to supervise their own children and staff members are on site to help out and answer questions. We’ve heard from several parents that you need to be sure to call ahead because sometimes the POP time is canceled or moved to different times to accommodate other gym activities.

Preschool Open Play Gym Dates and Times

At this time, POP is scheduled to take place on Wednesdays and Thursdays, 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. The fees are $5 for children ages 1 – 6 years old, but each additional sibling is only $2. There is a family pass available for $75. This family pass provides unlimited visits for your whole family all year long.

What to Wear to POP Open Gym Time

We didn’t really know what to expect when we arrived, but typical play-clothes and running around clothes are perfect. While the kids don’t really get “dirty”, there’s a fair amount of chalk dust throughout the gym and my kids were running so hard that they were very sweaty. With all of the jumping and bouncing, dresses or skirts are not the best attire to wear.

Things to do During Indy Stars Open Gym

My kids needed no instruction, even though it was their first time at Indy Stars. They took off and bounced on every trampoline, swung from every bar, balanced on every beam and jumped into every foam filled pit. There were cushioned gymnastics toys to roll around in and on across the wide open floor, there were tons of kids to play with and many friends to be made.

Food, Drink & Bathrooms

Restrooms and a drinking fountain were available. I wish we had brought our own water bottles to keep out in the spectator area. When we left, my kids saw drinks and snacks on a table — these were available for about $1 each. We saw other families enjoying snacks and lunches, many of them had a class coming up after the open gym time. Next time, I’m bringing snacks to bribe my kids to leave.

Fun Indoor Play Place

We loved Indy Star POP Preschool Open Gym. We will be back for sure! I’m considering the annual pass since it’s right around the block from our home. There’s a lot to do and despite the fact that we do not take gymnastics lessons, we felt welcome and found our groove pretty quickly. This event would be a great place to host a playdate or a meet-up with other local parents. There were so many moms, dads and caregivers during our visit. Indy Stars also hosts birthday parties for kids.
