Urban Vines Winery & Brewery | A Delightful Day at the Vineyard

urban vines winery & brewery

When considering locations for playdates, a winery might not sound like the most appropriate venue. However, I’ve found that Urban Vines Winery & Brewery is the perfect spot to meet up for a relaxing afternoon with friends and kids. My friends and I always enjoy a delightful day at the vineyard, sipping on a glass of wine or a wine slushy while the children explore the gorgeous grounds.

Urban Vines Winery & Brewery

Located on 161st Street in Westfield, about one mile west of US 31, Urban Vines is a locally owned family-friendly winery & brewery. They offer affordable tastings inside and a huge lawn in the back overlooking the vineyards with a children’s playground, a screened-in patio with a stage for live music, firepits, comfortable sectionals, picnic tables on the lawn, a large stage for concerts (or for kids to pretend karaoke on), and hills for playing tag or rolling down.

A Delightful Day at the Vineyard

On a sunny summer afternoon, you can bring the kids to Urban Vines Winery & Brewery and grab a seat at a table on the patio or a picnic table to chat with friends while the kids play. There is a great play set with a rock climbing wall, slides, a tunnel, and lots of things to climb on or swing from. Our kids usually run around the entire time we are there, dancing on the stage, picking dandelions on the lawn, playing an oversized Jenga, and making new friends around the playground. Urban Vines is also great for a date night, girls’ night, or book club gathering.

Sip on Beer or Wine

Urban Vines is locally owned and they are known for their small batch winemaking and beer brewing. Their beer selection changes all of the time and features many local breweries. They have a good selection of whites, reds, bubblies, sweet wines, and wine slushies. You can order a wine flight at your table or participate in a wine tasting at the counter. If you join the wine club, you receive discounted bottle and case pricing, free monthly wine tastings, and invites to members-only events. The bottles are very reasonably priced and make great gifts if you love gifting items from local businesses!

Stay for Dinner

Urban Vines offers a crowd-pleasing food menu should you find yourself hanging out through lunch or dinner! The artisan pizzas are delicious, and the menu features a kids’ pizza as well. Other options include salads, a hummus platter, bruschetta,  breadsticks, charcuterie boards, and desserts. There is a limited menu on Mondays and Tuesdays. Pizza is available Wednesday – Sunday and a Brunch Menu is offered on Saturdays and Sundays until 1 pm. Urban Vines asks that you do not bring in outside food or drinks.

Play a Game

Don’t forget to peek inside if you are seated out back. There is a library of board games for adults and kids that you can bring out to your table to play–free of charge! We’ve made great memories here playing Cards Against Humanity while the kids played Chutes and Ladders (after exhausting themselves running around). There are also puzzles and dominoes–all sorts of kids’ games!

Plan a Perfect Playdate

I can’t count how many beautiful evenings we’ve spent here enjoying a picnic and a drink while the kids played so much they were hungry and asking to eat! Unlike at a restaurant, at Urban Vines, you can eat your food in peace without being stressed out about the kids not staying in their seats for two hours. They can take a bite, walk around, and play for a little bit, then come back for another bite. Because, let’s be honest, that’s what they do. At Urban Vines, this is totally acceptable and one less thing you have to stress about!

Urban Vines is family-friendly, dog friendly, and offers free parking right in front. There is a bathroom inside as well as convenient outdoor bathrooms by the play area. Cold water is always free in refillable glass carafes by the restrooms so you can just grab a large bottle and some cups and bring it outside.

For the cooler months, you can rent a fire pit for 2 hours for an extra fun evening, Urban Vines just asks that you supervise children closely around the fire! Also, there is a pond at the back of the lawn, so if you have little ones you will have to keep an eye on them around that area and make sure they don’t get too close.

Live Music and Events

You can jam to live music by local artists every Thursday and Friday evening, all afternoon and evening Saturday, and in the afternoon every Sunday. There’s always some kind of event going on at Urban Vines like bingo or trivia night, summer concerts on the lawn, hayrides through the vineyards, or grape stomping.

Igloos and Private Parties

Every winter, you can rent an entire igloo to share with a group of friends. The heated igloos include comfortable seating, a heater, and a dedicated server. It’s really cool to be outside in the snow and ice, but warm and comfortable in an insulated igloo! There is also a wine cellar overlooking the tasting room that you can rent for private events. The wine cellar fits up to 25 people and is perfect for birthday parties, bachelor and bachelorette parties, or bridal showers and baby showers.
